Today is the last day of summer 2022, and writing that feels bittersweet.
I saw a meme the other day that said ‘Can we go back to the start of summer? I wasn’t ready yet.” And that’s how I feel! This summer was good, but ever since the beginning of the pandemic time hasn’t felt real.
August was 700 days long, and September feels like it started yesterday.
Thinking back on this summer – there are so many highlights that I’d love to write about – time spent with family, board games and movies, painting, pool time, and projects! But for today, I’ll keep it to a couple.
This summer, we found a recipe for a fabulous summer slush from A Charming Abode on Instagram. I’ve lovingly been referring to them as the Summer Slushie!
You take one can of frozen limeade, 2 cups of pineapple juice, and 4 ½ cups of ginger ale and mix it together. Then you pour it in a 9X13 pan and put it in the freezer for 2 hours. When you get it out, it’s kind of frozen, and deliciously tart! I seriously could drink a glass of it right now!
I got fun umbrella straws off amazon to enjoy ours! You can find the ones I got here:
Another one of my summer highlights was the first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty came out on Amazon Prime. This series was adapted from one of my favorite book series by Jenny Han. I read these books for the first time when I was in high school, and I loved them so much! I read them so many times – I even bought a new set when the seashell covers came out!
Most summers I reread them because of how much I love the beachy setting! Can you imagine having a beach house like Susannah’s? I seriously think I was meant to live on the water!
I was so excited when the first season came out, and there’s nothing better than when one of your favorite books is adapted well! I can’t wait for the next season to come out, but for now I’ll have to reread and rewatch to tide me over for next summer!
The end of summer is bittersweet, because summer is fun! It’s a time to relax and have fun. It’s sunshine and smiles!
But there’s something about fall, man. I love something about every season, but fall is extra special to me.
Pretty soon I’ll get out my sweaters, and start drinking hot chocolate in a mug to keep my hands toasty. I’ll go out of my way to step on crunchy leaves, and celebrate my birthday!
I have a first day of fall tradition – I bake a pecan pie! You can bet that tomorrow I’ll pull out my Pioneer Woman pie dish, and unfold my old newspaper recipe. It may still be 90 degrees where I live, but baking this pie means cooler weather is coming.
Remember a few weeks ago when I said to keep a list of days to look forward to? I have a bunch ready to go for fall!
When the leaves start to change, my family and I are going to plan a fall foliage color drive! We’ve never done that before, but I’m going to bake mini pumpkin bread loaves and pack thermoses of hot chocolate!
Halloween is coming, and I can’t wait to watch old Disney Channel Halloween movies (Twitches, anyone?)
I got a fall craft kit, and I’m going to make a fox on a spring bobble toy!
I’ll buy a bunch of pumpkins and decorate our yard!
I love fall! There’s something special about the cooler weather, the cozy colors, and the season of holidays to look forward to!
Fall is also a wonderful time of reflection and reminders!
One of my favorite quotes says: “Fall is about to show us how beautiful it can be to let things go…”
What are you most looking forward to this fall?
